Tawana “Ms. Tawana” Dixon is a Brooklyn born, Miami-based visual artist, cultural curator, and mother of two with roots in Panama and the Caribbean. She began painting and exhibiting her work in New York City in 2012. After taking a pause to navigate motherhood, she returned to her creative practice in 2021. Tawana currently participates in group exhibitions, curates creative programming through ArtWalk Presents and is the founder of The ArtBeat; an annual arts exhibition that celebrates diverse voices. She works across mediums, including mixed media, installation, and digital design, though acrylic painting remains central to her practice.
Inspired by her mother's doodles at the age of four, Tawana's early fascination with drawing grew into a practice rooted in story telling, layered textures and community. She often weaves her mother's scribbles into her paintings, honoring legacy while shaping her own visual language and signature style. A graduate of Miami Dade College with a degree in Graphic Design, Tawana intertwines her design skills with her artistic practice, creating impactful visual narratives.
Whether live painting at community festivals or producing site-specific exhibitions, Tawana remains committed to making art more accessible, immersive, and representative of the communities she calls home.
